Welcome to the July 2026 release of our Equalities Monthly newsletter!
We've got lots of exciting updates to share with you all, from our new project announcements to all the latest partners news and consultations, have a read and find out more.
We are always on the lookout for new activities and updates to add to our monthly, if you or your organisation has something coming up that you would like us to share, contact us and let us know.

What have we been up to at FCE?
Our Fife Equalities Forum was an online event Wed 10 June sharing updates, opportunities to work together and more.
Our Fife Inclusion Network held their latest Get-Together at Everyone, Everyday on on Wed 24 Jun 2026!
We hosted a workshop with our Fife Health and Social Care Partnership Equality Pathfinders on Thu 25 Jun 2026.

Happy Birthday Fife Centre for Equalities:
In case you didn't know, July will be Fife Centre for Equalities 10th Anniversary! We can't believe how quickly the time has past, and we can't thank those who have supported us over the past 10 years enough.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the board members, volunteers, partner organisations, members of staff and community members who have supported and contributed to our work of making Fife a fairer, and more equal place to live, work and study.
We hope to continue to serve the communities of Fife for years to come, making it a more inclusive place for all.
We will be celebrating on Wed 15th July, with a gathering at the Beveridge Park Peace Garden in the morning, and further celebrations in the afternoon. If you would be interested in popping along and celebrating with us, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Out and About:
Our full team had a busy weekend on Sat 04 Jul 2026, we were spread across the Fife Afro-Caribbean Network's Summer Festival as well as Fife Pride.
It was great to see everyone there, reconnect with those we haven't seen in a while and build new relationships! A big thank you to the teams at Fife Pride and Temi at AYT Foods for hosting us this year.

Fife Inclusion Network:
We spent our June Get -Together at Every One Every Day Community Space in Kirkcaldy on Wed 24 Jun 2026.
A big thank you to Nicolle and Gail from Corra who made us feel so welcome and supported throughout the event. They introduced us to the summer program of different activities they run from July to September, offering something for everyone. There are plenty of opportunities to choose from, which are definitely worth adding to your calendar.
At the get-together, we were joined by representatives from FCE’s partner organisations; Kwanele from Fife Forum, & Elvira from Fife College Student’s Association.
Kwanele shared information about the support and services available from her organisation that the members and staff found very informative and helpful.
FIN members and staff enjoyed taking part and showing off their teamwork and creativity during activities and board games delivered by Elvira from Fife College Student’s Association. Elvira also spoke about the ESOL courses at Fife College and some of our members are already considering enrolling on the course starting in August.

Fife Equalities Forum:
Please note that due to overlapping meetings and absences due to holidays, the July Fife Equalities Forum meeting will be cancelled, the next session will take place on Wed 12 Aug 2026 from 14:00.
The Forum is a great opportunity to learn more about the different groups and organisations working in Fife, the barriers they are facing and how we can work together to improve things for everyone.

FCE Companion Support:
The Companion Support Project was created to build a network of volunteers who are passionate about reducing social isolation, connecting people and groups and making Fife a fairer place for all.
Funded by the Fife Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, our Companion Support (CS), volunteers work in a group setting to empower others, and encourage them to make new connections and friendships.
It is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and learn valuable new skills.

Joining our Board:
We are recruiting suitably skilled people to join the Board to help deliver our vision and mission.
If you are passionate about equality, diversity, inclusion, and social justice, then this could be the volunteering role you’ve been looking for.
Applicants should have a passion and commitment to build a collective voice to champion equality, diversity, inclusion and social justice, along with the ability to provide strong governance and direction to ensure the delivery of our objectives.
These Trustee positions are voluntary, however, out-of-pocket expenses will be met.

World Population Day 11 July: World Population Day on July 11 is a holiday that’s dedicated to focusing on the importance of population issues. The day was established by the United Nations as a result of the massive interest people had in Five Billion Day in 1987.
World Youth Skills Day 15 July: The aim of World Youth Skills Day is to encourage youth to celebrate the value of acquiring skills like building, making, and creating as a way to achieve personal success and fulfilment.
International Day Of Friendship 30 July: "Sharing the human spirit through friendship" - this day aims to bring us all closer together and recognise the importance that friendship has when looking to a brighter future.

Fife Contemporary - Celebrating 20 years:
Fife Contemporary will be marking its 20th anniversary in 2026. This important organisation for the cultural life of Fife and across Scotland is marking this landmark year with a new exhibition, Dear Earth.
Dear Earth runs across a full year, from opening on 21 March 2026 in Kirkcaldy Galleries to closing at St Andrews Museum on 6 March 2027. Fire Contemporary are announcing a satellite programme of events to accompany the exhibition, bringing together artists from across disciplines to respond to the environmental and social themes addressed in Dear Earth.
Scottish Refugee Council - New Scots Leadership Programme
Scottish Refugee Council, in partnership with Social Enterprise Academy, is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026-2027 New Scots Leadership Programme.
This programme is for refugee community leaders living in Scotland and supporting communities in Scotland, who would like to:
Gain the confidence and tools to take a leading role to support and empower your community
Explore how to better represent your community and influence their future
Develop awareness of your leadership styles and how it impacts your practice
Join a community of leaders that can support each other
From September 2026 - February 2027, 16 refugees/asylum seeker community leaders will learn together for 2 full-day sessions once a month for 6 months. You will be led by an experienced SEA trainer to improve your self-awareness, understand how to better communicate with others, gain tools to overcome the challenges that your community face, and develop influencing skills.
They will provide a safe and supportive environment for you to learn together.
The programme is for Learners with a level of English of Upper Intermediate SCQF Level 5 OR equivalent ESOL Level 2 (qualification gained in England, Wales, NI) or CEFR B2

Consultations to look out for
Fife's Gaelic Language Plan 2026-2031:
From Fife Council: "Fife's Gaelic Language Plan 2026–2031 sets out how the Council and its partners will strengthen Gaelic across Fife by:
Increasing the range and frequency of opportunities to use Gaelic in community life, supported by Gaelic learning and cultural activity. (Community support)
Supporting Gaelic language and cultural activities for people across a wide range of ages and interests. (Support in the home; Creative industries)
Promoting and supporting access to Gaelic education in early years, primary and secondary settings. (0-18 Education)
Expanding post‑school and adult learning of Gaelic through community‑based programmes and learning delivered through the medium of Gaelic. (Post-school and adult learning)
Strengthening partnerships to support delivery of the Plan. (Public Authorities)
Strengthening Fife Council’s own role in supporting the Gaelic language through planned delivery, partnership working and stronger links to wider policy. (Public Authorities)
There are seven themes each with their own areas of focus. We are seeking your opinions on these areas of focus and to know if there is anything missing.

Fife Council is working alongside the Lumphinnans and Hill of Beath community steering groups to develop community action plans to guide priorities for the next five years. Your views will help shape the People and Place themes that matter most to the community.
